When are my company accounts due?

Type your company number and see your exact deadline, read live from the Companies House register — plus what missing it would cost.

Free, no account. Your company number is on any Companies House letter, or search the register by name.

How the deadline works

A private company's annual accounts are due at Companies House 9 months after its financial year end (the "accounting reference date"). A company's first accounts usually cover a longer period and are due 21 months after incorporation. Public companies get 6 months, not 9. The checker above reads your company's exact date from the register, so you don't have to work any of this out.

What filing late costs

The penalty is automatic — no warning letter first, no discretion:

…and if your accounts were also late the previous year, every figure doubles. Leave them unfiled long enough and Companies House can begin striking the company off the register. Dormant companies get no exemption — the deadline and the fines apply even if the company did nothing all year.

Accounts are not the confirmation statement

Companies also file a yearly confirmation statement ("our details are correct" — £50 Companies House fee) on its own separate date. This checker shows both dates, but the penalty ladder above applies to accounts.

You can file your accounts yourself, free, at Companies House — TidyFilings is for directors who'd rather it be done, checked and confirmed. Dormant £15, micro-entity £30: see the filing software.
